My Peace Corps Experience in Haiku
My awesome WWS class wrote some haikus for me in their last letter. It inspired me to create some of my own, highlighting my daily life in Rwanda. That, and it beats cleaning my house.
I sit on my chair
Alone in the dark, it rains
I wish for power
Children call my name
Return with wave of my hand
Shrieking, run away
Speak Kinyarwanda
People, they are astonished
Still hosed at market
My dog lies in bed
Bieber decorates my floor
Now star face has pee
Cooking beans once more
Flush toilet is not working
Just another day
Land of thousand hills
Sunrise over terraced land
The day has begun
Kids stare in my house
Yell until they run away
Boo Ridley, channeled
Fantasize Asia
Food, it enters my belly
A dream, beans again
Trip walking down road
Choruses of sorry heard
Silly mzungu
Bella trasmitted
Repeated and consistent
My ears are bleeding
What is the Peace Corps
I ask myself as I sit
And ponder my life

um love.
